get to know about chlo

"Mama said I was a dancer before I could walk.

She said that I started to sing long before I could talk." (ABBA)

There's no better quote to describe me. Theatre was always in my being, with the instinct to sing, dance, and storytell as natural to me as the instinct to breathe. I was born of parents who met in their college production of Grease playing Frenchie and Doody. I was put in ballet lessons at the age of 3. Our family movie nights were Golden Age musicals like The Sound of Music and Oklahoma. As soon as I was old enough to be in our church choir, my mother signed me up, and as soon as I was old enough to attend our church theatre camps, I attended them all. The desire to tell a story through song and dance is rooted deep in my identity.

Who am I? First and foremost: a storyteller and creator.

A major part of my childhood was training with the Russian ballet, a style known for its strict technique and tradition but also its emphasis on storytelling. More important than anything else is the story we tell as performers. This is the principle I have carried with me my entire career. When I first started to really dip my toes into the theatre world was in 4th grade, when I wrote a play called "Mystery Marie" (very Nancy Drew-esque) and cast my friends in it. I would hold rehearsals during recess and we performed it in the talent show, in which I also sang and performed in an improv scene. This was the awakening that not only did I want to dance and sing and act other people's works, I also wanted to create my own. I want to present my own spin on the world around me.

There is something so special to me about creation. I have always loved to write, dabbling in poetry, songwriting, short stories, and playwriting. Since high school I have frequently choregraphed for shows, auditions, etc. Recently the desire to direct has ignited in me. The past two shows I have directed and the show I am choreographing for currently are the most fulfilling moments of my career in a while. And the lessons I learn from writing, directing, and choreographing truly enhance my work as a performer. A passion for creation drives the performer to always chase the best way to present the human experience. The truest representation of the human experience is the forefront of my storytelling aims.
